Children's Counselling
Oasis Counselling service offers counselling and therapeutic play to children and young people in our service in Tallaght.
Parents attend the first session and must give written permission for the child to attend. At this session the counselling process will be explained to the parents and the children. It is really important that the child wants to come and isn't being 'sent.'
Each session lasts about 50 minutes and will be confidential unless the child says something involving child abuse, or that they are going to harm themselves or someone else………
Counselling-this is for children or teenagers who would like to talk to a counsellor about their problems. The counsellor will listen, try to understand and help the child or teen to work through their problems. The counsellor's job is not to give advice or tell the child what to do but to listen, understand and help them to process what is happening in their lives. Art and sand and creative techniques are often used in the counselling sessions.
Therapeutic Play – this is for younger children who are not able to sit and “talk” about their struggles. It allows the child to play with sand and toys with the therapist present. It is a wonderful way for small children to process the things they are struggling with, like the separation of parents, death of a loved one, struggles at school etc.
There is a suggested voluntary contribution for children’s counselling of €30 - €60 but we sometimes have funding available to help families that need counselling but do not have funds to access it. Please ask us if you need help.
