Attending Oasis
If you have a problem and you think that counselling would help, please phone us. This is what normally happens when someone wants to come for counselling.
Step 1 Phone 01-626 8519 and our receptionist will take your name, address and number and will then send out a letter inviting you for an Initial Assessment. This assessment will last about 20 – 30 minutes and you are asked to give a voluntary contribution of €20 towards the cost. Please ring to confirm that you will be able to come to this first meeting. If your circumstances are extremely difficult and it is impossible to make a contribution, please don’t let that put you off. Let us know and we will try to help.
Step 2 You will come to Oasis for the Initial Assessment. A qualified counsellor will talk with you and take down some details. They will explain what counselling is and find out why you want to come for counselling. Oasis asks clients to make a voluntary contribution towards the cost of the service and this will be discussed at this meeting. We have a sliding scale of suggested voluntary contributions. The voluntary contributions go towards the core costs of the service in Ballyfermot and Tallaght.
If you wish to come regularly for counselling and if we feel that we can help with your particular problem, you will be assigned a counsellor. You will receive a letter with a time and day. Please ring to confirm that you can come.
Step 3 You can come to see your counsellor once a week. After 6 weeks you and your counsellor will talk about either ending the sessions or continuing on for another block of sessions. If your counsellor feels that you have difficulties that need specialist help, they will help you to find someone who works in this area. (e.g. serious depression, anorexia, addiction etc.)
Step 4 When you feel that you have worked through your problem and no longer need counselling, you and your counsellor will agree an ending. You can come back to counselling later on if you feel you need some more sessions.
